Natural Remedies for Toenail Fungus

One of the reasons Vicks VapoRub might be good for toenail infection is that it contains ingredients such as eucalyptus oil and camphor.
To try this remedy, rub a tiny amount of Vicks Vaporub or a similar product on to your toenail, do this daily, just once or even twice if you have the time. If you work from home, you could apply it in the morning before you start work, allow your feet to breathe all day, do not wear socks or shoes. If your toenail infection is not too severe, you should start seeing results in a few days.
2. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree is well known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. One of the best ways of treating toenail fungus with tea tree oil is to apply to the toenail undiluted twice a day.
3. Olive Leaf Extract
Olive leaf extract contains a compound called oleuropein which is is believed to have antifungal properties. It is also known for its antibacterial properties. This is one of the known natural cures for toenail fungus problems.
To use olive leaf extract as an effective remedy for toenail fungus, take olive leaf extract supplements in a capsule form Take one to three capsules with your food each day, remember to increase your water intake when you are taking olive leaf extract capsules. Drink at least three litres of water per day whilst taking olive leaf extract pills.
4.Vinegar
There are no real studies to back up claims that vinegar is an effective remedy for toenail fungus however, there is no harm in trying it out unless of course, you are allergic to vinegar, then you should avoid it completely.
For this remedy, make a mixture of one-third vinegar and two-thirds of warm water. You can use apple cider vinegar for best results. Place your foot or feet into the mixture and let them sit for about 15 to 20 minutes. Do this every day for about seven days.
5.Listerine Mouthwash
This is a strange one but Listerine mouthwash has ingredients that have antibacterial properties therefore it makes sense to consider trying Listerine mouthwash as a remedy for toenail fungus. The best type of Listerine to use is the original, don't use the blue and purple varieties. Pour a whole bottle of Listerine into a bucket of warm water, about half a regular-sized bucket. Sit for about half an hour and do this daily.
6. Garlic
Garlic is also known for its antifungal properties, just crush garlic or make a paste by blending it with a little water. Apply the garlic to your toenails and rinse off after an hour. You can also just take garlic capsules and incorporate more garlic into your daily meals.
7.Diet Changes
If you keep having persistent toenail fungus issues, go ahead and take a look at your diet. Consume more of the following:
-Yogurt with good bacteria cultures
-Good protein like lean chicken, fish and tofu if you are vegetarian
-More dark leafy greens such as kale and swiss chard
-Oily fish such as salmon and mackerel
-Foods high in vitamin D such as beef liver, egg yolk and good quality cheese. For vegans, you might want to consider taking a vitamin D supplement.
